Day three: GB women's and men's teams finish third in the groups
Great Britain finished the FIP Euro Padel Cup on a high, with the women’s and men’s side both winning their final ties in Cadiz.
The wins mean that both teams have finished third in their respective groups but missed out on a place in the semi-finals.

GB claim hard-fought win over Germany
The GB women’s team sealed the first British victory at the FIP Euro Padel Cup, defeating Germany 2-1 in their final tie of the tournament.
The win over Germany means that the Brits have finished third in their group, behind Italy and France.
Great Britain got off to a flying start thanks to top-ranked duo Aimee Gibson and Tia Norton – who claimed the team’s first match win of the competition up against Milla Blaschke and Celina Ermann.
Gibson and Norton held off a comeback from the German team to win 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 in an hour and 51 minutes.
Catherine Rose and Lisa Phillips then stepped up to seal the victory for the Brits – battling from a set down to beat Corina Scholten and Lena Plumer 2-6, 6-1, 6-1.
The Germans managed to claim a consolation win in their final match, with Katharina Hering and Denise Hofer defeating Abigail Tordoff and Laura Jackson 6-4, 6-1.
Britain beat Sweden in final group match of men’s Group A
Inspired by the women’s victory earlier in the day, the GB men’s side also claimed a 2-1 win in their last tie of the Final 8 against Sweden.
After the disappointment of losing a tight three-set battle against Portugal the day before, Alex Loughlan and Louie Harris partnered up again to get the Brits underway with a win.
In their third match together in Cadiz, Loughlan and Harris defeated Albin Olsson and Daniel Windahl 7-6, 7-6 to get their first victory on the board.
The Brits mixed up the partnerships in the second match, with British No.1 Christian Medina Murphy and Alfonso Patacho teaming up for the first time in the tournament.
The change-up paid off, as the Brits once again got the better of two tie-break sets to beat Adam Axelsson and Simon Yitbarek 7-6, 7-6.
With the win confirmed for the Brits, Sweden managed to claim one back in the third match as Daniel Appelgren and Linus Frost beat Tom Farquharson and Sam Jones 6-4, 6-3.

Italy prove too strong for GB women’s team
Great Britain's women had another tough ask on their hands as they fellow short against Italy 3-0 in their second tie of the Final 8.
Abigail Tordoff and Laura Jackson got proceedings underway against Chiara Pappacena and Giulia Sussarello, with the Brits losing out 6-1, 6-0.
It was then over to Aimee Gibson and Tia Norton to pull their team back into the tie as they faced Carolina Orsi and Emily Stellato. After a one-sided opening set, the British duo managed to make the second a tougher contest but couldn't complete the comeback as they lost 6-0, 6-3.
Giulia Dal Pozzo and Martina Parmigiani then combined to make it a three wins on the bounce as they beat Catherine Rose and Lisa Phillips 7-5, 6-2.
Tomorrow, the GB side will take on Germany.
Britain’s men’s team give third seeds Portugal a tough challenge
The Great Britain men’s team put in solid performances against Portugal but ultimately lost out 3-0 to the team currently ranked second in Group A.
Alex Loughlan and Louie Harris kicked off the tie with a three-hour epic against Portuguese family duo Miguel and Nuno Deus 6-7, 7-5, 7-6.
Despite taking the first set tie-break 11-9 in stunning fashion, the Brits suffered a late break of serve in the second set, before losing a heartbreaking third set tie-break. That set the tone for a close tie against the tournament’s third seeds.
In the second match, Miguel Oliveira and Pedro Graca sealed the tie for Portugal thanks to a 6-1, 6-4 victory against Alfonso Patacho and Nikhil Mohindra.
Then, top-ranked British team Christian Medina Murphy and Sam Jones eventually lost another close battle against Pedro Perry and Afonso Fazendeiro 7-6, 7-6.
The Brits will return tomorrow to play their final group match against Sweden.
Day one's action in Spain saw Great Britain's women's and men's team fall short against France and Spain respectively.
Women's
Great Britain’s women’s team lost their opening tie against a strong French side 3-0 in the first match of the tournament on centre court.
French No.2 Carla Touly and No.3 Lea Godallier got their side off to a winning start with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Britain’s Abigail Tordoff and Rosie Quirk, who recently won the FIP Promises event in Stratford.
British top-ranked team of Aimee Gibson and Tia Norton were defeated by world No.27 Alix Collombon and Jessica Ginier Barbier 6-1, 6-2 to secure the win for France.
However, there were plenty of positives to take from the tie, particularly the third match as Lisa Phillips and Catherine Rose took a set off Lucille Pothier and Louise Bahurel but eventually lost 3-6, 6-4, 6-0.
They will now prepare to take on Italy and Germany in their remaining ties.
Men's
Great Britain's men side faced one of the toughest challenges in the sport today as they took on top seeds Spain in their first tie, with the Brits losing out in a 3-0 defeat.
The host nation started as the meant to go on as David Gala Sanchez and Pol Hernandez Alvaraz combined to beat Britain's Alex Loughlan and Louie Harris 6-2, 6-3 and give their nation the early lead.
It was then over to British No.1 Christian Medina Murphy and British No.2 Sam Jones to try and get their nation back in contention. Medina Murphy and Jones put in a resilient display against Alavaro Cepero and Juanlu Esbri but eventually fell short in a 6-2, 7-5 loss.
Tom Farquharson and Alfonso Patacho rounded off the action against Jose Antonio Diestro and Victor Ruiz where Spain secured a clean sweep with a 6-3, 6-1 win.
They will be hoping to reset ahead of their remaining ties against Portugal and Sweden over the coming days.
