Brits crowned champions at the seventh LTA Padel British Tour Grade 1 event of 2025 in London

• 3 MINUTE READ

This weekend brought British success in both the men’s and women’s competitions at the LTA Grade 1 Open Stratford Padel Club Year End.

Aimee Gibson and Catherine Rose claimed another title together, whilst George Weller and Juan Manuel Lasgoity upset higher seeds to win the men’s trophy.

In the largest women’s draw on the LTA Grade 1 calendar so far this year, top seeds Gibson and Rose continued their run of form, not dropping a set to secure their fifth title of 2025. Reflecting on their straight-sets 7–6, 7–6 victory, Gibson said, The atmosphere at Stratford Padel Club has been always amazing, it almost feels like a home crowd for me since I used to train here. It was brilliant to see such a full women’s draw too, as well as so many fans supporting the finals.

"It’s exciting to watch padel grow in the UK, with tournaments getting bigger and more competitive every year.”

British No.2 Rose added, It’s been great to see how women’s tournaments are growing, with more and more players entering. I really enjoyed getting to play several matches across both days to reach the final, that doesn’t happen too often in the UK.

"It’s also been noticeable how many Spanish players are competing on the LTA Padel British Tour, they’re fantastic competitors, and their presence makes the events even more exciting for both players and spectators.”

In the men’s draw of 32, Britain’s George Weller teamed up with Italy’s Juan Manuel Lasgoity for an impressive run to the final, where they faced top seeds Louie Harris, the current British No.3, and his Spanish partner Josep Aymerich Bellmunt. In an exciting and hard-fought final, Weller and Lasgoity claimed their first-ever LTA Grade 1 title with a 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 victory.

Speaking after the final, Weller reflected on the tournament saying, It was incredible to have this opportunity, to play alongside such a great player. Balancing coaching during the week and competing on the weekends makes moments like this even more rewarding. To finally beat players I’d never beaten before, and to go all the way thanks to my partner, was an amazing feeling.”

The competition at Stratford Padel Club was the seventh LTA Grade 1 event of 2025 to take place across England, Scotland, and the Channel Islands as part of the British Tour. The events see the very best British and international players compete in standout events, across full weekends, for prize money.
