Rosie Pooley headlines title winners at LTA Padel British Tour Grade 1 Scottish Open Championships

This weekend brought British success in the women’s competition at the LTA Padel British Tour Grade 1 Scottish Open Championships, with second seeds Rosie Pooley and Spanish partner Ainhoa Rico claimed their fifth LTA Grade 1 title of 2026.
It was an impressive week for Pooley and Richo, who dropped just two games all tournament. In the final, they capped off their campaign with a flawless 6-0, 6-0 win over top seeded British pairing of Lucy Jones and Abigail Ombler-Truran.
Post match Britain's Pooley said, “It’s been a great week in Glasgow and we have played really well together as a team. We had a game plan going into the match, so we’re delighted it worked so well and we managed to win.”
Rico added, “I love playing in these competitions and being able to continue develop as a player. It was our first time visiting Glasgow and we’ve really enjoyed the event – so happy to have got the win.”
Meanwhile on the men's side, seventh seeded Spaniards Josep Aymerich Bellmunt and Rafael Vega claimed the title after an impressive run. In the final, they produced a commanding display against fourth seeds Nicholas Hatchett and Sam Macneil - closing out the championship with a 6-3, 6-3 victory.
Speaking after the final Aymerich Bellmunt said, “Very happy to have won the title. There are a few of us fighting to be No.1 in the UK at the end of the year, so winning this event helps us massively in achieving that goal and we will look to keep it going into our next event.”
Vega added, “I’m really pleased to come to Glasgow and win. I work in events in my day job and I have to say this has been run so well. Everyone has been so welcoming, and it feels great to leave with the title.”
Mike Cohen, Head of Competitions at Tennis Scotland reflected on the event saying, “This week’s Scottish Open Padel Championships has been a great success, with some great matches and a number of British players performing well.
"It was exciting to have two Scottish men in the final, which added to the atmosphere and gave the home crowd a team to root for. Having the event televised live by BBC Scotland really helped to raise the profile, and everyone at the venue worked so hard to make everyone feel very welcome.”
The competition at Racket Barn Glasgow was the fifth of seven LTA Grade 1 events in 2026 to take place across England, Scotland, and the Channel Islands as part of the British Tour, which encompasses the top padel competitions in Great Britain.
Grade 1 events see the very best British players and international competitors competing in standout events, across full weekends, for prize money. In 2026, British players, including juniors, open, and seniors, will have 35 weeks of international and domestic playing opportunities to earn valuable prize money and ranking points.
