This weekend brought British success in both the men’s and women’s competitions at the LTA Padel British Tour Grade 1 Guernsey. Aimee Gibson and Catherine Rose claimed another title together, whilst Olly Cull and Jaime Lobo upset higher seeds to win the men’s trophy.
Top seeds, Gibson and Rose continued their strong form, dropping just two games in three matches, after receiving a bye in their first round. The 2023 champions overcame compatriots Sophie Cousins and Angela Wood in the final 6-0, 6-0 to claim their fourth title together in 2025.
Reflecting on the win, British No.1 Gibson said, “It’s always great to win an LTA Grade 1 tournament at home - Catherine and I won this event two years ago when I was quite new to padel and it’s been amazing to come back to Guernsey and win the title again this year. The club here is great, and the tournament has such a friendly feel with lots of us being hosted by local families and gives us a real chance to experience the island.”
British No.2 Rose added, “I always enjoy playing with Aimee, we have had lots of success together and to come back to Guernsey and win another title here has been great. We both have lots of friends on the island, so it makes it relaxed and fun to come here to play.”
In the men’s draw of 32, fourth seeds Cull and Lobo enjoyed a strong run to the final, where they competed against the sixth seeds, Brits Ethan Bardo and Ben Phillips in a tight final that finished 6-4, 6-4.
Speaking after winning their first title together, Cull said, “It’s been great to play with Jamie this week and pick up my first LTA Grade 1 title - to be able to do that at my home club in Guernsey in front of all my friends made it even more special.
"We have an incredible community at the Club and the support we received throughout the weekend, especially in the final, was amazing.”
Lobo added, “It’s incredible to win here in Guernsey - Olly played unbelievable - we were very calm in the final. The Club here is amazing, playing with Olly in Guernsey in front of his friends means this is a win for everyone so it’s very nice”
Sara Woolland, Tournament Director said, “We were delighted to be able to welcome five members of the GB teams to Guernsey fresh from their success in the Euros. The tournament had some really interesting pairings in the men’s with lots of more experienced players pairing with some of the UKs most exciting youngsters which made for some entertaining matches through the weekend.
"Aimee and Catherine once again showed their class sweeping through the draw, and it was wonderful for the full Guernsey crowd to be able to watch Jamie and home favourite Olly lift the men’s trophy.”
The competition in Guernsey was the fourth LTA Grade 1 event of 2025 to take place across England, Scotland, and the Channel Islands as part of the British Tour, which encompasses the top padel competitions in Great Britain.
