This weekend brought British success in both the men’s and women’s competitions at the R3 Bullpadel Cup, part of the LTA Padel British Tour, held at the Surbiton Racket and Fitness Club in London.
Christian Medina Murphy partnered with Spaniard Alberto Garcia Jimenez to claim the men’s title, whilst Abigail Tordoff upset the top seeds to win the women’s trophy with Baharak Soleymani from Sweden.
In the men’s draw of 32, top seeds Medina Murphy and Garcia Jimenez enjoyed a strong run to the final, where they competed against the second seeds, Tom Farquharson and British No.2 Sam Jones.
The British, Spanish team secured a 6-2, 6-4 victory to claim the R3 Bullpadel Cup title. The pair enjoyed a dominant tournament, not dropping a set in their run to the title, and not losing a single game until the semi-finals.
Speaking after the final, Medina Murphy, who currently world No.105, said “It was amazing to play here at this great venue. Sam and Tom played at a really good level, they are doing a really good job. I think we played really solid at the beginning of the second set when they started to play well, but we kept going, found a way to play, and win. We are really happy.”
Recent FIP Bronze Quala Lumpur champion Tordoff continued her strong form, this time pairing with Baharak Soleymani. The second seeds battled top seeds Catherine Rose, GB No.2, and Nelida Brito from Argentina, in a tightly contested final, ultimately emerging victorious with a 6-4, 6-7(2), 6-2 win.
Post match, the British No.5 reflected on the tournament saying, “This was the first time playing with Bara and we were really happy with our level. The final was a great match, really tough with the sun and wind but so pleased that we managed to get the win. Really happy.”
Sam Kemp, R3 Tournament Director said: “We were incredibly proud to host the R3 Bullpadel Cup, as part of the LTA British Tour, at the beautiful Surbiton Racket and Fitness Club. We were blessed with perfect weather, an incredible venue and a crowd like we’ve never seen before - the Surbiton members turned out in force and created a fantastic atmosphere. It was inspiring to see such a high level of padel on display, especially with so many British players performing brilliantly. Congratulations to the winners and a huge thank you to Surbiton Racket and Fitness club, our dedicated officials, and our amazing partners - your support was instrumental in making this event such a standout success.”
The competition in South West London was the third LTA Grade 1 event of 2025 to take place across England, Scotland, and the Channel Islands as part of the British Tour, which encompasses the top padel competitions in Great Britain. Grade 1 events see the very best British players and international competitors competing in standout events, across full weekends, for prize money. Acceptance onto British Tour events is based on players' LTA Padel Ranking. This LTA Grade 1 event also marked the first time an LTA tournament has been televised on Padel TV.
Spectators can watch back on the action and view exclusive player interviews on Padel TV.
British players will return to action on home soil next month at the LTA Grade 1 tournaments in Guernsey and Chiswick. Meanwhile, the Great Britain team will head to Madrid, Spain, to compete in the FIP Euro Padel Cup from 7-13 July.
