Great Britain’s Seniors team gain valuable experience at FIP Seniors World Cup 2026

Across the tournament, both teams produced performances they can be proud of, competing with passion and commitment while flying the flag for Great Britain on the world stage.

The experience gained in Buenos Aires will provide a strong platform for future international competitions as GB's senior players continue their development and look to close the gap on the world's leading nations.

The men's team were handed a challenging group-stage draw, beginning their campaign against Germany. Despite narrowly missing out in a closely fought tie, the team showed they could compete with high-quality opposition.

They then faced the highly ranked and renowned Spanish side, where the overall scoreline did not fully reflect the competitiveness of many of the matches. The men finished the group stage strongly with a convincing victory over Egypt, adapting well against an unfamiliar opponent to secure an important win.

Britain’s men then took on Ecuador in the contest for places 17-24. Backed by passionate local support that created one of the most vibrant atmospheres of the tournament, Ecuador took an early lead before the British team battled back to secure victory in the deciding rubber. 

The men then rounded off their week with an impressive win over Canada, earning a joint 17th/18th-place finish after the final classification ties were not fully completed due to finals day scheduling.

Great Britain’s women's team also embraced the opportunity to test themselves against some of the world's leading senior nations.

Throughout the week, they demonstrated determination, resilience and team spirit, gaining valuable experience against high-level international opposition and continuing to showcase the growing strength of senior padel in Britain.

The women's team faced a challenging draw, placed in a three-team group that meant they had no match on the opening day of competition. As a result, qualification for the top eight would likely come down to a decisive clash with Belgium, one of Europe's highest-ranked women's teams.

Great Britain began their campaign on Tuesday against an inexperienced Ecuador side and proved far too strong, securing a convincing 5-0 victory. The closest contest came in the 40+ category, where the British pair faced Ecuador's most experienced duo and battled through a hard-fought three-set encounter to maintain the team's perfect start.

A place in the quarter-finals was on the line when Great Britain took on Belgium on the streamed show court, the same venue that hosted a Premier Padel P1 event earlier in the season.

The British players produced a spirited performance against their more experienced opponents. However, Belgium ultimately edged the contest, sending Great Britain into the 9th-16th place classification matches.

Following Italy's surprise defeat to Brazil in the group stage, Great Britain faced a strong Italian team in their next tie. Italy secured victory by winning the first three matches of the contest, but there was still plenty to celebrate for the British side.

The standout performance came from the 60+ pairing of Rosie Dennis and Ashley Mears, who claimed an impressive victory against a highly-rated Italian duo.

Great Britain's women finished their campaign on a high against Germany in the 13th/14th place play-off. After falling 2-0 behind, the team staged a remarkable comeback, with outstanding performances from the 50+, 55+ and 60+ pairs helping secure a 3-2 victory and end the tournament with a memorable win.

Team Captain, Libby Fletcher, reflected on the event, saying, “Having the opportunity to compete against some of the best countries in the world is really what the FIP Seniors World Cup has been about for both the men’s and the women’s Great Britain teams this year.

"We have played some outstanding padel over the last week, and it’s great to see that the level of the seniors Great Britain team continues to improve each year. From this event we can take lots of positives, and now is the time to start to plan how we can encourage and support the players to take their game to the next level.”
