With 14 years in padel, he has competed on the previous World Padel Tour circuit, and represented Great Britain internationally since 2015. As a coach, he’s helped develop the LTA Padel Instructor qualification and founded The Padel School, a leading online coaching platform.

John Leech

LTA National Coach, and former captain of the GB squad John Leech, led the national team through four major international championships between 2010 and 2018. Widely regarded as a leading figure in the UK padel community, John has made significant contributions to the sport through both his competitive achievements and his coaching career. In 2021, he co-founded Home Of Padel, now recognised as the UK’s foremost padel events operator, delivering high-profile tournaments for professional and amateur players alike.

Women's team captains

Libby Fletcher

LTA National Performance Pathway Manager Fletcher has shaped British padel after transitioning from coaching elite tennis players. A former GB national padel team member, she now leads the women’s team and supports players at all levels through junior camps, event support, and development programs.

She manages Individual Development Plans for funded athletes and collaborates with coaches, venues, and parents to ensure high-quality environments. Fletcher also contributes to coach education and works with Farquharson on tailored pathways. Her role includes building a domestic training and competition framework to support emerging talent and drive the long-term success of British padel.

Agustin Gomez Silingo

Agustin Gomez Silingo is a renowned professional padel player from Argentina, known for his powerful style of play and commanding presence on the court. Often referred to as "La Bestia" (The Beast), Silingo has built an impressive career through consistent performances on the World Padel Tour, reaching a career high ranking of 21. In 2024 Silingo made the transition from being a player to becoming a padel coach. Silingo soon became coach of Juan Lebrón (Spain) and Martín Di Nenno (Argentina), two players of the world’s elite players. His appointment as women’s team captain reflects not only his achievements but also his ability to inspire and lead his teammates.

Silingo said, “I am extremely happy to accept the position of International Coach for the GB Women’s team this year, and I look forward to working together with the team. My mission is to help the players improve and widen their tactical knowledge of the game through high level coaching and support. We are looking forward to competing against the best teams in Europe in Madrid.”

Tom Murray, LTA Head of Padel, looks ahead to the tournament saying, “LTA is proud to announce our captains for the FIP Euro Padel Cup in Madrid this July: John Leech, Sandy Farquharson, Libby Fletcher, and Agustín Silingo. British padel is on the rise, with recent player successes and eight players now ranked in the world’s top 200.

Our captaincy team brings a wealth of experience and leadership. Agustín Silingo, a former world champion for Argentina, offers unmatched technical and tactical insight. His partnership with Libby Fletcher, will be instrumental for the women's squad.

"On the men’s side, both John Leech and Sandy Farquharson are respected British coaches and accomplished players, and their passion and ambitious vision will drive the team forward. We’re looking forward to showcasing the strength and progress of British padel on the international stage.”

Further team details will follow in due course.
