Become a padel official
Running padel competitions comes with a tonne of benefits for your venue. Not only does it open up a new revenue stream, but it also helps attract new players and provides competitive opportunities for your club members to level up their game.
However, these competitions wouldn’t be possible without the amazing work of padel officials, who play an integral role when it comes to organising padel competitions.
If you’re interested in becoming a padel official but don’t know where to start, we’ve got you covered.
Here’s everything you need to know, so you can get started on your padel official journey today:
Padel Referees play a vital role at every padel club. They are responsible for looking after all players at a competition and making sure everyone is fairly following the rules of the game during matches.
There are currently no padel-specific referee courses available, so if you are looking to qualify as a Padel Referee, you will have to complete and pass a two-day Tennis Referee course.
Before you can sign up to this, you will need to have completed either the Court Supervisor or Competition Organiser course or have relevant experience in organising competitions.
Once accepted, the course will provide you with all the vital knowledge and experience needed to become a Padel Referee including:
- Fair play
- Rules of padel
- Code of conduct
- Refereeing duties
- Role of the court supervisor
- Handling situations, such as on-court disputes
- Tournament organisation
- Tournament experience
To fully qualify as a referee, you will need to pass an exam on day two. Once you’ve passed the course, you will then be eligible to apply for your LTA Officials Licence.
Finally, you will need to complete and pass a free online Padel Referee conversion course – then you’re ready to take to the courts to referee and organise events at your venue.

It’s a Court Supervisor’s responsibility to make sure every padel competition runs as smoothly as possible and that players have the best experience. They are also on hand to address any on-court disagreements and manage player’s behaviour.
The best part about a Padel Court Supervisor is that anyone over the age of 16 can become one - all you need to do is complete a free online course.
We don’t currently have a padel-specific Court Supervisor course, but you can qualify by completing a tennis Court Supervisor course, which will provide you with all the necessary skills.
During the free course, you’ll cover:
- The role of a Court Supervisor
- Key skills and qualities for Court Supervisors
- Key rules and procedures for Court Supervisors
- The code of conduct
- Line call disputes
- Score disputes
At the end of the course, you will be assessed by an exam - if you pass, you can become an LTA Licensed Official and will be eligible for selection as a Court Supervisor.
