Padel's rapid rise: Great Britain reaches 1,000 padel courts

• 2 MINUTE READ

We have announced a major milestone for padel in Great Britain, with 1,000 courts now available across 325 venues nationwide.

Padel is one of the fastest-growing sports in Britain, and new figures released today by the LTA highlight its upwards trajectory, with the number of courts rising from just 68 in 2019, when we took on governance of the sport, to 1,000 in July 2025.

This growth has seen impressive annual increases in courts from: 87 in 2020, 150 in 2021, 220 in 2022, 350 in 2023 and to 763 at the end of 2024.

The following breakdown shows how the padel courts are distributed across Great Britain:

As of February 2025, the LTA and LTA Tennis Foundation has invested more than £6 million in the growth of padel across Britain, including £4.5 million towards the development of 80 courts at 42 venues.

Padel courts are dispersed across a wide facility mix, and we are committed to making padel accessible to a broader and more diverse audience, particularly the development of public facilities that reach underserved communities across the country, so that everyone can experience the physical and mental health benefits of staying active through playing padel.

We are in discussions with DCMS about plans for a network of 40 Community Covered Tennis, Padel and Multi-sport Hubs has been that would provide year-round opportunities for people to play in publicly owned facilities, transforming community accessible provision across the country

Padel is playing an increasingly active role within communities, and over 75% of padel venues already actively engage in community outreach initiatives, ranging from partnering with local schools to offering free sessions and coaching for underserved groups.

Tom Murray, LTA Head of Padel said: “It’s great news that we’ve reached the milestone of 1,000 padel courts in Great Britain and shows how rapidly the sport is growing across the whole country.

"We now want to focus on the sustained development of the sport, opening it up to more and different people. As well as maintaining our focus on padel infrastructure, key focus points going forward include growing and diversifying the padel coaching workforce, and implementing a performance pathway that supports current British players whilst also paving the way for the next generation.

"It’s an exciting time for padel and the perfect time for people of all ages and abilities to pick up a racket and enjoy the sport.”

Hitting 1,000 courts nationwide follows on from a milestone in elite performance for British padel, after GB’s men’s and women’s padel teams both qualified for the final eight at the FIP Euro Padel Cup in Madrid earlier this month. With a new format which has seen a record 37 men’s teams and 31 women’s teams enter, both teams topped their respective qualifying groups, and will test themselves against Europe’s padel superpowers later in the year.
