Louie Harris claims title as LTA Padel British Tour continues in London

• 3 MINUTE READ

Britain’s Louie Harris claimed his first LTA Padel British Tour Grade 1 title over the weekend at the Adidas HOP Pro London, as he and partner Miguel Martin Cano took home the silverware without dropping a set.

After dropping just five games in their opening three matches, Harris - the current British No.4 - and Cano defeated the all-British pairing of Sam MacNeil and Nicholas Hatchett to set up a final against Josep Aymerich Bellmunt and Rafael Vega.

Having been in imperious form throughout the tournament, the top one seeds picked up where they left off in the final and wrapped up the title with a comfortable 6-3, 6-3 win.

Following their win, Harris said, "I’m really pleased to win the adidas HOP Canary Wharf Grade 1 event. The standard was high, the venue was brilliant, and it was great to be part of such a well-run tournament. Thanks to sponsors, HOP and the supporters who came down.”

In the women’s doubles, the all-British and second seeded pairing of Eloise Tait and Laura Jackson came up short in the final, losing out to top seeds and all-Spanish pair Marisa Mayoral and Ainhoa Rico 6-1, 6-1.

Despite losing out, Tait and Jackson enjoyed a strong week of results and adds to a strong season for Jackson who claimed her first LTA Padel Grade 1 title at Rocks Lane in Chiswick earlier in the year.

After the final, one half of the victorious pair Mayoral said, “I’m delighted to win the adidas HOP Canary Wharf G1 event. The organisation, venue and atmosphere were all first-class, and it was a fantastic experience to compete here in the UK. Thanks to HOP and everyone who supported the tournament.”

Tournament Director John Leach said, "HOP events are growing bigger and better each time, driven by the incredible support of partners like Alpine and the LTA, and by world class venues such as Padium that allow us to create truly engaging experiences. With the rising energy around padel in the UK, it’s an exciting moment for the sport and for HOP.”

Spectators can watch back on the action and view exclusive player interviews on Padel TV.

British players will return to action on home soil in October as Stratford Padel Club plays host to the fourth and final Cupra FIP Tour event of the year from the 8-12 October.
