Over the weekend, The Padel Hub in Whetstone hosted the second British International Padel Federation (FIP) event of 2025.
The FIP Bronze HOP London Padel Open was the second of four FIP Tour events in Great Britain this year as part of the LTA Padel Performance Competitions Calendar, offering British players the chance to earn both prize money and valuable ranking points.
French duo seal women's title
Great Britain’s number three seed, Tia Norton, narrowly missed out in a place in the final with her Dutch partner Stephanie Weterings, losing out to the eventual French winners Jessica Ginier Barbier and Carla Touly.
The French third seeds secured victory in the final over Italy’s fifth seeds, Giulia Sussarello and Emily Stellato, with a 6-3 7-5 win.
After lifting the title, Touly said: “I am so happy to have played and win here in London. I lived in London for a year and a half, so for me is always special to come back here and be able to play here. I started playing padel because of British people, and winning here is not exactly as winning at home, but it makes it very special.
"Also the organisation in Britain is always super good, we usually play tournaments in many countries – where the organisation is not as good; here the organisation, referee, scheduling, etc has been very good and it is something that the players always appreciate. I will make sure I come back to the August FIP event in the UK.”
Among a number of noteworthy performances, 15-year-old Brits Rosie Quirk and Chloe De La Mare played their first ever FIP event, winning their first round match against compatriots Amy Cairns and Alice Keddie in three sets.
Spanish partnership beat second seeds in men's final
The men’s final was an all-Spanish showdown, where fourth seeds Jaume Romera Barcelo and Marcos Gonzalez Blanco triumphed over the higher-ranked second seeds Adrian Marques Berdonce and Miguel Gonzalez, closing out the match 6-3 6-4.
British pair Louie Harris and Alexander Loughlan enjoyed a strong run to the quarter-finals of the tournament, before being defeated in straight sets by eventual finalists Marques Berdonce and Gonzalez.
“I am very happy to conquer my first professional title in London, playing with Jaume in one of our first tournaments together,” said Gonzalez after his win.
“The organisation has been great and welcome us, making us feel at home. It is my second time in the UK this year, having attended a previous HOP Pro G1 event at Leeds, where we also took the win, so likely not to be my last time here this year.”
Home Of Padel Tournament Director Javi Serrats reflected on the tournament saying, “It has been great hosting this amazing HOP London Padel Open, the third edition has been a total success with an un-seen level of Padel in London. The Brits have done great, with special mention to Louie Harris and Alex Loughlan, reaching quarter finals and losing tight against the second seed of the event; and Tia Norton, who with Steffi Wetterings fought hard in a very even semifinals against the eventual winners Carla Touly and Jessica Ginier.
"The vibe of the event has been fantastic, thanks in big part to the activation of our sponsors and seamless organisation and help by the staff and refereeing team. Finally, thanks to Alpine as head sponsor and the LTA for the support.”
The next FIP Tour event in Britain will take place in August, at Island Padel on the island of Jersey.
